Description

The Soviet era is the period after the victory of the USSR in the 2nd World War and until 1990, when the Republic of Latvia restored its independence. It is a time of one communist party rule, strong ideological work and suppression of nationalism and democracy. Stalin's time, Khruschev time, Brezhnev's time,... Gorbachev's time...However, it is a time when people lived, worked, loved, sang... Each period has its pros and cons. During the tour, we will see and visit public buildings built during the Soviet era. They are certainly typical testimonies of their time. We will visit the former VEF factory Culture Palace and will see the building of the Academy of Sciences completed in 1959. We will see the TV tower, the Spilve airport completed in 1954, built in a typical Soviet neoclassical style, the building of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Latvia, Suspension Bridge (1976-1981) and others. You can decide to replace any of these attractions and will visit Salaspils Memorial created 1967. On the way we will drive through typical apartment area built in soviet times.
